My project will investigate the single molecule conductance of the four DNA Nucleotides in order to provide a novel approach to nucleotide identification. The first step toward this is to accurately measure the tunnelling current induced when a nucleotide form a single molecule junction between the electrodes of a scanning tunnelling microscope. Once such events are reliably measured, the different DNA nucleotides are to be distinguished by implementing a convolutional neural network.
